How I Make Rice

Measurements in the kitchen from my childhood was the equivalent as white rice being the star at a Paleo convention. Didn’t happen. It’s one of the reasons why baking still gives me anxiety. I know many of you may do the same thing, leaving measurements to the restaurants that have to deliver consistent dishes day in and day out. Or maybe it’s something about watching grandma make your favorite food a bajillion times, that the method seeps into your mind.

How To Clean A Cast Iron Skillet

Having a cast iron skillet in your arsenal of kitchen tools is a great idea. Knowing how to clean the skillet is even better. I must admit, I stayed away from this precious pan for many years because I didn't understand what people meant when they said they had a skillet in their family for a hundred years and it had never been washed. Eww.

But now, I get it. You just have to clean it in a different way. It will sear anything like a dream for you, so it's nice to repay the favor with a little love.

Regrowing Green Onions

If you feel like you have a black thumb, but wish you could have a garden, do this. It such a high success rate that you'll be planting seeds in no time! This makes me the happiest in the fall and winter since it's harder to grow anything outdoors. Yes, they are already so cheap when you buy them but it's great when you just need a little bit of garnish, without having to run to the store. Plus it keeps it fresh without going bad when it's forgotten in the bottom of the vegetable drawer in the fridge ... which I may or may not have done a dozen times.

How To Clean Razor Clams

Razor Clams. They look pretty funny.

How funny you say? So funny that they look pretty daunting to prepare for your meal. Also, they look like they could be the subject to a lot of third grader's jokes. I admit I giggled a few times just looking at these things. Comedy aside, these things are delicious and have a lot of meat. So even though they take some work to clean, they are definitely worth the hassle.

These beauties were a gift from a friend that is a true Northwest adventurer. Oh the stories he could tell. He harvested these from Grayland Beach on the coast on Washington. He's also the one that taught me how to clean them, so you'll be in good hands.

Before we begin, I want to let you know that this won't be pretty. You've been warned.
