Usually, I'm more of a wine drinker. But when I want an alternative during these chilly days, or have a tickle in my throat, it's hot toddy time. The only downfall to this hug-in-a-mug is the missing crackle of a fire that should really magically appear whenever this cocktail is made.
Just like with any drink, this concoction depends on how stiff you want it to be and how much lemon and sweetness your taste buds want. There is a dollop of honey, but when I've run out of the ingredient, the drink is still grand to those of us that like the bitter notes.
This is the foundation of a simple hot toddy, but cinnamon sticks, nutmeg and ginger are also welcomed guests to the party. Just tell Sugar she's not allowed a plus one, or the next day your headaches will never forgive you.

Hot Toddy Cocktail
2 shots whiskey
1 Tablespoon honey
1-2 teaspoons lemon juice
2 cups water
6 whole cloves, optional
- While the water is being heated to a boil, cut two lemon peels off starting from top to bottom, without getting the bitter white pith. Punch three whole cloves into each piece. Take both end of the peel, twist, then hold for a few seconds to keep the peel in place.
- In a mug, pour in the honey. Add the hot water, lemon juice, shot of whiskey, then stir around until everything is incorporated. Garnish with the lemon twist, and serve hot.
