Magazine Paper Flowers and Gift Wrapping

I've posted about these upcycled paper flowers before, but I thought I would take another go at the post because these are a special craft that I love to do. They actually crack me up with the portraits I find in GQ, and I love the NW flair I get from Seattle Met, and don't get me started with the incredibly yummy magazine pages from Martha Stewart. But these are special in the sense that I've been making them since I was in 4th grade, and it's the only tradition I have for the Christmas season.

Cinnamon Ornaments

I never made these cinnamon ornaments as a kid, but it's never too late to do what you missed out on. One day, I will own a Mr. Potato Head.

The most notable thing about this little craft project is not how they look, but how they smell. Which is amazing in case you were wondering. Even though these ornaments are a new thing I'm doing, the smell of warm spices instantly equals Christmas for me.

Recycled Paper Flowers and Gift Wrapping

Upcycle your magazines like a boss.

These ornamental paper jewels have been something that I've made since elementary school. They've sophisticated over time, but the accomplished and overjoyed feeling I get after making a bundle of these stays the same.

Over the years, people have asked how these are made and I always swear to write down directions ... just like recipes ... but then stall, because how do you explain something that you do on autopilot?

Well friends. Here it is. The method to my paper crafting madness. This is why I save tons of magazines. This is why I love to gift things. And this is why you see Ron Burgundy's face as you should: on a paper flower.

Persimmon Pumpkins

I have a confession. I never celebrated Halloween as a kid.

Once in awhile I had to dress up for school, because all the other kids were doing it, but I usually ended up wearing a Korean traditional dress so I never got into costumes. When I tell new friends about this they usually are confused, but I think I'd win with the confusion contest. You knock on strangers doors and ask for candy? Sometimes people are dressed to scare? There are horror movie marathons on TV?! Uh uh, no way mister. Being the biggest scardy-cat in the world doesn't help me enjoy this holiday like my peers do.

Autumn Wreath

When we first moved into our fixer-upper house, I thought I would totally have the landscaping in pristine condition by now. Two and a half years later, my Rhododendron bush looks like it should be in The Nightmare Before Christmas.

Luckily, the spaghetti branches it gets from improper pruning makes a beautiful fall wreath, hahaa! I love this DIY project, because it's simple to whip this up to welcome the changing of the leaves.

Beer Bottle Candle Holders

Now ... how you empty these beer bottles is up to you.

We usually have more aluminum cans than glass bottles around, so when it's time to recycle them, I always think "I need to give those bottles a second life!".

Candlelight is an instant mood setter that reminds us to settle down and enjoy the moment. To make sure these moments don't break the bank, I get my candles from Ikea because it's cheap and doesn't make a mess everywhere with wax drippings. Using a recycled bottle is an added bonus.
